Box Score Minot, N.D. – The Minnesota State volleyball team beat Minot State in a five set, 3-2 victory. The Mavericks were down 2-1 in the match before the Purple the Gold took the next two sets to win the match over the Beavers by the scores of 29-27, 20-25, 16-25, 25-22 and 15-13.
With the win, the Mavericks record improves to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
In set one, it was a back and forth affair as both teams had leads of three at one point as the Mavericks and Beavers fought point for point to tie the set 25-25 all. In the end, MSU was able to come out on top in the set 29-27. A pair of sophomore middle blockers led the way for the Mavericks in the set with
Courtney Anderson and
Krista Hassing posting five and four kills, respectively.
The Mavericks in the second set were able to build a 11-6 advantage over the Beavers before MISU tied it all up at 14-14. The Beavers finished the set on a 11-6 run to take the second set over the Mavericks 25-20. Again, it was Hassing leading MSU with four kills in the set. As a team, the Mavericks had four service errors and seven attack errors.
Minnesota State in set three was all tied up with Minot State at 14-14 before the Beavers went on a 11-2 run to win the third set 25-16. Senior outside hitter
Chandra Honebrink led the charge with five kills as junior setter
Ellie Van De Steeg added 10 assists.
In the fourth set, the Mavericks built a 19-15 advantage over the Beavers and were able to win the set 25-22. Honebrink posted another seven kills to her stat sheet as freshman middle blocker
Vikolia Meade added four kills and Van De Steeg recorded 14 more helpers.
In the fifth and final set, it was all square at 10-10 before the Mavericks went on a 5-3 run to win the set and match, thanks to a match-winning kill by Honebrink. It was Meade and Honebrink leading the Mavericks in the set as each of them posted three kills.
Pacing the Maverick offense was Honebrink with a match-high 18 kills to go along with eight digs and five total blocks. Hassing posted a 11 total kills and four blocks of her own as Anderson pitched in with nine kills and five blocks. Van De Steeg tallied a match-high 52 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore libero

The Mavericks will return to the court Saturday, as they will face-off with the University of Mary. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Century High School in Bismarck, N.D.
