#17 Minnesota State Rolls Past Michigan Tech Friday

Box Score Mankato, Minn. ---17th-rated Minnesota State earns its eighth-straight victory as it defeated Michigan Tech, 3-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday in Mankato.

After 56 minutes and 18 seconds of scoreless hockey, the Maverick offense erupted in the final 3:42 of the game, netting three goals to lift Minnesota State past the Huskies.

The Mavericks were able to break the gridlock after 56 minutes and 18 seconds of hockey as sophomore center Dylan Margonari redirected a shot-pass from junior defenseman Brett Stern for what proved to be the game-winning goal. The marker was Margonari's eighth goal of the season and gave MSU a 1-0 advantage with 3:42 to play.

MSU connected on two additional shots in the following 45 seconds as both junior Chase Grant and sophomore Bryce Gervais netted their eighth and 11th goals of the season, respectively.

Grant was able to sneak one past MTU netminder Phoenix Copley at the 18:06 mark of the third period with assists credited to senior Johnny McInnis and sophomore Teddy Blueger. Gervais posted his 11th goal of the season unassisted, with an empty net with 45 seconds remaining to round out the scoring in the game.

Minnesota State freshman goaltender and reigning WCHA Defensive Player of the Week Cole Huggins registered his fifth shutout of the season as he stopped all 26 of MTU's shots on goal ini lifting his record to 17-7-0 on the season.

MSU, which has won its last eight games, now stands 22-13-0 overall and is 20-7-0 in WCHA action. With the loss, the Huskies falll to 14-17-6 overall while going 14-16-6 in league play.

The Mavericks and MTU close out the two-game WCHA series and the 2013-14 regular season Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
