Johnny McInnis in skating to a 4-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association victory at Lake Superior State Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
The win extends MSU's winning streak to seven-games.
The Mavericks found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first period of action with Laker forward
Colin Campbell firing a shot from the right circle that beat
Cole Huggins on the glove side at 7:42. The goal ended a shut-out streak for the Mavericks that reached 206:02 over the course of over three games.
The Mavericks struck for three second-period goals in grabbing their first lead of the game. Senior
Johnny McInnis ripped a shot over
Kevin Kapalka's right shoulder at 1:05 to tie the game, but
Kevin Czuczman's tally at 3:33 allowed the Lakers to regain the lead. Sophomore forwards
Bryce Gervais and
Dylan Margonari worked a give-and-go that resulted in a Gervais goal at 8:04 and then at 18:45, senior
Zach Lehrke made it 3-2 Mavericks with a power play goal from the top of the slot.
McInnis gave the Mavericks a 4-2 lead when he tallied at the 2:46 mark of the third period. The goal, his 19
th of the year, proved to be the 14
th game-winning goal of his career. LSSU closed out the scoring at 3:57 when Dan Radke connected on a power play opportunity.
The Mavericks outshot the Lakers in the game by a 40-30 margin in the contest.
With the win Minnesota State stands 21-13-0 and is 19-7-0 in WCHA games.
The Mavericks return home to close out the 2013-14 regular season next Friday and Saturday with a pair of league games vs. Michigan Tech.
