#23 Minnesota State Preps for Final Regular Season Home Contests

MANKATO, Minn. --- The  No.23 Minnesota State women's basketball team wraps up the home portion of its 2013-14 regular season schedule as it hosts Southwest Minnesota State Friday before  turning its attention to the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, which is senior night.
The Mavericks are currently tied for third place in the overall NSIC standings and also tied for second in the NSIC South Division with Concordia-St. Paul, which MSU holds the tie breaker over. 
MSU earned a pair of wins over NSIC North Division foes in the University of Mary and Minot State by scores of 84-68 and 80-62, Friday and Saturday, respectively. 
Senior Karlee Gengenbacher paced the Mavericks netting 15 points in each of the two games while connecting on 13-of-20 (65%) shots from the field. 
Following this weekend's games, MSU takes to the road for its final four games to do battle with Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State next weekend before ending the regular season at Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls on Feb. 21 and 22.
Scouting the Mustangs: SMSU is coached by Allison Krueger, who is in her fourth season at helm of the Mustang women's basketball program and has posted a 21-80 overall record while going 15-67 in conference action. The Mustangs have amassed a 4-16 record and are 2-14 in NSIC action.
The Mustangs are led by Alison Nagel who is averaging 14.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest and is connecting on 52% of her shots from the field and 45% from behind the arc.
This past weekend, SMSU defeated Bemidji State at home, 76-64, before falling to Minnesota Crookston, 76-69.
Scouting the Cougars: USF is coached by Travis Traphagen, who is in his sixth season as head coach. The Cougars currently sport a 12-8 overall record with a mark of 8-8 on the circuit.
There are three Cougars averaging double-figures, led by Laura Johnson who is netting 15.4 points per game. Taylor Varsho is posting 14.8 points per game and Jaicee Ulmer rounds out the top-scorers averaging 11.1 points per contest. 
USF swept Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State at home  last weekend by scores of 84-74 and 82-73, respectively, to reach .500 winning percentage in conference action.
Looking Back: The Mavericks extended their winning streak to four games and started a new Taylor Center winning streak as they downed the University of Mary Marauders 84-68 on Friday, before earning an 80-62 win over Minot State Saturday. On the weekend, MSU earned a +15.5 turnover margin in the pair of wins.
Nationally-Known: The Mavericks are currently 11th in the nation with a 1.2 assist to turnover ratio and 15th in the nation in assists per  game, averaging 17.8 per contest. Individually, sophomore Aubrey Davis is 28th in the nation, sporting a 1.97 assist-to-turnover ratio. Ali Wilkinson's 18.2 points per game is the second-best average in the NSIC and 46th-best in the country. Collectively, the Mavericks 82.9 points per game is the seventh-best average in all of Division II, while they sport the fifth-best turnover margin, averaging a +6.95 turnover margin.
