#10 Minnesota State to Face Concordia-St. Paul in Road Contest

MANKATO, Minn. --- The tenth-rated Minnesota State men's basketball team will wrap up its road trip this Saturday as it takes on the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. The opening tip is set for 4 p.m.
 
Minnesota State History: The 2014-15 season marks the 93rd campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,254-852 (.595) in 2,106 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns an 97-35 (.734) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

The Mavericks made their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season. MSU owns a 15-11 record (.576) in NCAA Tournament play and most recently defeated Harding (97-56) in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament before falling to Northwest Missouri State 71-66. The Mavericks have now hosted four of the last five NCAA Central Region Tournaments at Taylor Center.

About Last Week: The Mavericks remained unbeaten in conference play last weekend as they defeated Upper Iowa (89-78) and Winona State (79-67) on the road to improve to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in NSIC play.

Against Upper Iowa, senior Connor Miller scored a game-high 30 points, including a 13-of-14 performance from the free throw line. Senior Zach Monaghan notched his third career double-double with 12 points and 12 assists, while sophomore Mike Busack brought down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Senior Assem Marei posted his 20th career double-double in MSU's win over Winona State as he posted 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Monaghan notched a game-high 21 points and seven assists.

Concerning the Mavericks: MSU owns a nine-game winning streak, including four straight victories in NSIC play.

Senior Assem Marei is averaging 17.3 points and eight rebounds per game, while senior Zach Monaghan is averaging 13.1 points and 7.4 assists per contest. Senior Connor Miller is dropping in 12.7 points per game as well.

As a team, the Mavericks are shooting 49.9% from the field, including a 41.7% showing from behind the arc.

MSU is bringing down 36 rebounds per game and is outscoring its opponents by an average of 14.3 points per game.

Concerning the Golden Bears: Concordia-St. Paul enters the weekend the owner of a 5-5 record, including a 1-3 record in NSIC play. The Golden Bears have lost their last three games including a pair of losses to Winona State (75-56) and Upper Iowa (86-74) last weekend.

Cole Olstad leads the CU offense with an average of 14.8 points per game. Mike Yahnke is leading the team with seven rebounds per game, with Nuni Omot averaging 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Joey James is in his first season at the helm of the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears program and owns a 5-5 record.  

MSU owns an all-time record of 16-6 against the Golden Bears, including a record of 15-4 under head coach Matt Margenthaler.
