MANKATO, Minn. --- The second-rated Minnesota State football team remained perfect on the season Friday evening as it defeated the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears 38-6 at Blakeslee Stadium.
With the win, MSU improves to 7-0, including 3-0 mark in NSIC South Division play. With the loss, CU drops to 1-6 on the season, including a 0-3 record in south division action.
The Mavericks have now won 29-consecutive NSIC games dating back to week one of the 2012 season. MSU has also won its last 22 NSIC home games dating back to the 2010 season.
The Maverick defense proved to be a force at home once again as it limited the Golden Bears to just a pair of field goals. The defense also matched last week's mark in the sack categorie as MSU notched seven sacks. Senior
Kris Fleigle notched 1.5 sacks, to go along with eight tackles and an interception.
Junior
Tyler Henderson led the MSU defense with 10 tackles, while freshman
Cory Brent posted his second interception of the season. Junior
Bryce Dominick recovered a CU fumble as well. Â
On offense, the Mavericks notched five touchdowns and a field goal for a total of 38 points.
On the ground, junior
Connor Thomas notched his seventh career 100-rushing yard effort as he ran for 145 yards and a touchdown. Senior
Andy Pfeiffer added 84 rushing yards and a touchdown as well. Junior
Kyle Riggott and junior
Chad Zastrow each notched touchdown runs of their own too.
Sophomore
Ricky Lloyd threw for 77 yards and a touchdown. Lloyd connected with senior
Austin Rieder late in the second quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Junior
Alden Haffar tallied his seventh field goal of the season as he connected on a 22 yard attempt to knot up the score at three late in the first quarter.
Concordia-St. Paul's only scores of the game came off the foot of Tom Obarski as he connected on two field goals. His first came on a 32 yard attempt at the 11:45 mark of the first quarter, with his second coming during the final second of the second quarter.
Minnesota State continues NSIC play on the road on Saturday, Oct. 25, as they take on the Augustana Vikings. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
