No. 23 Mavericks Tame Huskies, Improve to 8-3

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- No. 23 Minnesota State uses its fifth 100 point showing of the season to improve to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference action with a 100-66 win over St. Cloud State, which falls to 8-3 overall and 4-3 on the circuit.
 
MSU's fifth 100 point game ties a program single season record, which was set during the 2007-08 season.
 
The first half saw two major runs, as the Mavericks opened the half outscoring the Huskies 20-5 through the first eight minutes of the contest.  SCSU answered with a 13-7 run of its own to cut the MSU lead to 22-18 with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening frame, the Mavericks took a  46-30 lead heading into intermission.
 
The Mavericks forced 14 Husky first half turnovers, while MSU tallied 14 assists in the first half. The Mavericks connected on 18-of-41 (44%) of their shots from the field, 4-of-14 (29%) from behind the arc and 6-of-9 (67%) from the charity stripe. The Huskies connected on 11-of-26 (42%) from the field, 3-of-8 from deep, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the stripe.
 
Senior Ali Wilkinson (Blue Mounds, Wis.) paced the Mavericks with 18 points and five rebounds in the first half and was joined in double figures by fellow senior Karlee Gengenbacher (Quincy, Ill.), who posted 10 points in the opening frame.
 
The Mavericks outscored the Huskies 54-36 in the second half, and were sparked by freshman Sammie Delzotto (Eagan, Minn.), who netted 14 points in the second half, to tally a career-high 17 points.
 
MSU had 11 student-athletes make their way to the scoring column, including four double-figure outings led by Wilkinson who finished with a game-high 19 points. Delzotto contributed 17 points, while Gengebacher and freshman Tyra Johnson (Apple Valley, Minn.) each netted 12 points.
 
The Mavericks connected on 51% (36-71) of their shots from the field, 42% (11-26) from behind the arc, and 71% (17-24) from the charity stripe. MSU held SCSU to a 43% (24-56) showing from the field, 36% (4-11) from behind the arc and forced 27 Husky turnovers.
 
No. 23 MSU returns to action as it hosts Minnesota Duluth tomorrow, opening tip is slated for 4 p.m.
