#25 Mavericks Set for Road Contests with Winona State and Upper Iowa

MANKATO, Minn. --- The  No.25 Minnesota State women's basketball team takes to the road for a pair of games against Winona State and Upper Iowa in Winona, Minn., and Fayette, Iowa, respectively.
In its last meeting, MSU downed Upper Iowa 101-66 behind a 22-point effort by Ali Wilkinson; collectively, the Mavericks connected on 60% of their shots from the field (36-of-60) and were able to connect on 25 attempts from the charity stripe (74%)
The Mavericks followed up the win with a 67-59 win over Winona State. Wilkinson once again paced the Mavericks with 24 points and nine rebounds, as MSU's shooting percentage drastically plummeted from the Upper Iowa game. MSU connected on 31% (21-68) of its shots from the field, 32% (12-38) from behind the arc, but forced 16 Warrior turnovers, including a number of shot clock violations committed by WSU in an effort to slow down the MSU offensive attack. 
Scouting the Warriors: Winona State is under the direction of Scott Ballard, who coached his team to a 21-11 record a season ago. The Warriors are on a five-game skid with their last win coming by way of a 62-31 win over Bemidji State on Jan. 3. 
Senior Abby Busch is leading the Winona State offensive attack, tallying 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest and is the only Warrior to average double-figures. Collectively, the Warriors are shooting 40% from the field and 34% from behind the arc. 
Busch paced the Warriors with 14 points and nine rebounds in their 67-59 loss to MSU earlier this season. WSU only played eight athletes in the contest with three athletes recording over 35 minutes for the Warriors.
Scouting the Peacocks: The Peacocks are coached by Carol Russell, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the women's basketball program and is currently 10-65 in NSIC action. 
Upper Iowa is led by junior Whitney Kieffer, who is averaging 17.5 points and four rebounds per game during the 2013-14 campaign. Kieffer is one of two Peacocks to average double-figures. 
Kieffer was one of three athletes to reach double-figures in the Peacocks' first meeting with the Mavericks, she netted 14 points and was joined by Sam Thrapp and Carly Pagel who finished with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. The Mavericks are currently undefeated against UIU, posting a 13-0 all-time record against the Peacocks.
Looking Back: The Mavericks split this past weekend, defeating Augustana 82-64 Friday evening, before they had their program-best 24 game home winning streak come to an end at the hands of No. 11 Wayne State, falling 89-82. Ali Wilkinson paced the Mavericks, falling  two rebounds shy of her fourth consecutive double-double Saturday, as she posted 20 points and eight rebounds.
Nationally-Known: The Mavericks are currently 15th in the nation with a 1.18 assist to turnover ratio and 13th in the nation in assists per  game, averaging 18.1 per contest. Individually, sophomore Aubrey Davis is 19th in the nation, sporting a 2.04 assist-to-turnover ratio. Ali Wilkinson's 18.8 points per game is the second-best average in the NSIC and 37th-best average in the country. Collectively, the Mavericks 83.2 points per game is the ninth-best average in all of Division II.
