Box Score St. Paul, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team fell to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul, 3-0,Tuesday evening by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-10 dropping to 6-4 on the season, with a mark of 2-1 in conference action.
"Our performance tonight, while disappointing on the scoreboard was a step forward," said head coach Dennis Amundson. "Even though we didnt matchthem attack for attacher Chandra Honebrink and Sydney Geisness had strong performances."
The Mavericks were tied with the Golden Bears, 2-2 in the first set before the reigning six-time national champions went on a 9-2 run opening up an 11-4 lead, which proved insurmountable as CU took set one 25-14. Sophomore Chandra Honebrink led MSU in the set with three kills, while posting a .750 hitting percentage.
Concordia-St. Paul began the second set with a 6-1 spurt before the Mavericks would cut the Golden Bear lead to 11-7 before MSU went on a 5-2 run cutting the deficit to 12-11 in favor of CU. The Golden Bears would outscore the Mavericks 13-6 down the stretch to take the second set 25-17, opening up a 2-0 lead in the match.
Following intermission the Mavericks opened up a 6-4 lead in the third set, but the Golden Bears would have nothing to do with it, as they rattled off an 11-1 run opening up a 15-7 lead. CU would go on to take the third and final set by a score of 25-10, winning the match 3-0.
Concordia-St. Paul hit a blistering .475, compared to MSU's .179. The Mavericks were led by Honebrink, who finished the match with 11 kills and posted a .647 hitting percentage.
The Mavericks will return to Taylor Center to host St. Cloud State Friday evening, with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
