Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State senior forward and team captain
Eriah Hayes has signed an entry-level contract with the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks.
Hayes was an unrestricted free agent and erms of the contract were not disclosed.
Hayes, who was named
All-WCHA Third Team in 2012-13, finished second on MSU’s scoring charts on the season with 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points.
The La Crescent, Minn., native completed his four-year college career with 52-44--96 in 153 career games to rank tied for tenth on the school’s career scoring list for the DI era. Hayes led the Mavericks with 12 power play goals as a senior, which ranks second in the nation and are the most PPGs by a MSU player since
Pat Carroll had 13 in 1982-83. His 25 career power play goals tie for fourth all-time at MSU (
Shane Joseph also had 25 PPGs) and his 153 career games played ranks second on MSU's all-time list. He is a two-time
WCHA All-Academic honoree.
Hayes helped lead the Mavericks to a 24-14-3 record and a berth in the NCAA postseason tournament in 2012-13.
