However, senior Lauren Smith scored a goal in both games to bring her season total to 19 as she became the program’s single-season record holder. Defensemen Erika Magnusson, Lauren Barnes, and Emilia Andersson all picked up two assists a piece in the two-game set.

A Little Bit More On Minnesota Duluth:  UMD owns a 13-10-3 overall record including a 12-9-1 record in WCHA action and 6-4-2 mark at AMSOIL Arena this season.  The Bulldogs are in a three-way tie for third in the league standings after being swept by Minnesota last weekend by scores of 5-0 and 6-2. Minnesota Duluth is fifth in the nation with 11.2 penalty minutes/game and boasts the 11th-best scoring defense in the country at 2.38 goals allowed/game.

Last Time Around:  Minnesota State took five of six points from UMD at All Seasons Arena on Oct. 19-20. MSU scored two extra-attacker goals in the final 90 seconds to overcome a three-goal deficit in game one and claimed two points with a shootout victory. The Mavericks collected a 1-0 win in game two as Tracy McCann tallied the contest’s lone goal.

Minnesota State All-Time:  The MSU women’s hockey program, started in 1998-99, is currently in its 15th season of competition and has compiled a 144-329-44 (.321) record in 517 total games played. The Mavericks are in their 14th year as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and boast an 81-251-36 (.269) mark in 368 league contests.

Strong Special Teams: As a team, Minnesota State is ninth in the country in combined special teams at 54.7%.  The Mavericks boast the 13th-rated power-play (18.0%) and 22nd-best penalty-kill (81.3%).  MSU converted on one-of-ten power-play opportunities last week vs. North Dakota.

Standing Out: With six regular-season league games left, Minnesota State leads the way in a tight battle for sixth place  in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings.  Two of the Mavericks’ remaining three league opponents currently sit above MSU in the conference standings.

One for the Record Books:  Senior Lauren Smith is currently in the midst of the best season in her career at Minnesota State and one of the best in program history as her 2012-13 campaign places her in the top-10 of seven single-season statistics at MSU with six games remaining in the regular season. Smith has already set the program record for goals in a season (19).
