Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team downed the Bemidji State Beavers in straight sets, improving its record to 13-13 overall and 8-10 in conference action.
"It was a solid effort from our players today. We served well, we blocked well, we attacked pretty good," stated head coach
Dennis Amundson. "We had a little trouble with their jump serve in the beginning, but we adapted. We're looking forward to our last weekend of the season against Duluth and St. Cloud."
Battling until the end, the Mavericks earned a 25-23 win over the Beavers in the opening frame. Sophomore
Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) recorded nine kills on 19 attempts (.421) to lead the Mavericks.
MSU jumped out early in the second set, taking a 13-4 lead over the Beavers and went on to win 25-18. As a unit, the Mavericks hit .224, and recorded three blocks, taking a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Carrying their momentum into the third set, the Mavericks took the set 25-20 over the Beavers. As a whole, the Mavericks posted 16 kills with only four attacking errors in the frame, recording a .462 attacking percentage.
Honebrink finished the match with 14 kills on 39 attempts, while junior
Tiana Runck (Springfield, Minn.) tallied 10 kills on 16 attempts, posting a .562 hitting percentage. Freshman
Haley Fogerty (Belle Plaine, Minn.) contributed 22 digs on the defensive side of the net. MSU hit .283 as a unit and recorded nine blocks in the three set match.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Nov. 15th as they finish the season on the road against No. 3 Minnesota Duluth, first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
