No. 11 Mavericks Open NSIC Schedule at Concordia-St. Paul

Mankato, Minn. --- The 11th-rated Minnesota State men's basketball team opens its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule on the road Saturday as it takes on the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. The opening tip is set for 4 p.m.

Concerning the Mavericks: Earlier this week, the Mavericks improved to 6-1 on the season as they defeated Dakota State 95-71 at Taylor Center. MSU shot 47.3% from the field and 86.7% from the line. The Mavericks also connected on 12-of-27 (.444) three point shots and hauled in 44 rebounds. Junior Zach Romashko notched a career-high 26 points, while junior Zach Monaghan tallied his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. Senior Gage Wooten added a career-high 14 rebounds as well.

Through MSU's seven games this season, a total of six Mavericks are averaging more than 10 points per game, with Monaghan leading the way with 14 points per game. Wooten is averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. Romashko and junior Assem Marei are averaging 13 points a game as well, while senior Tanner Adler is averaging 12.3 points per game, while shooting 48.5% from behind the arc.

As a team, the Mavericks are averaging 89.6 points a game, to go along with 42.6 rebounds per contest. MSU is also shooting 51.3% from the field and has passed out 128 assists.

Concerning the Golden Bears: The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears currently boast a 3-1 record, including a 79-57 win over Ferris State in the last game. The Golden Bears defeated Waldorf 75-67 earlier this season as well.

Concordia-St. Paul has five players averaging 10 points or more per game, including Terez VanPelt, who leads the Golden with 16.3 points per game. He has also passed out a team-high 15 assists. Cole Olstad is averaging 15.3 points per game, while Mike Yahnke is averaging a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest.

As a team, the Golden Bears are averaging 77.8 points and 42.8 rebounds per game. They are shooting 41% from the field and have passed out 54 assists.

Kelly Boe is in his eighth season as head coach for the Golden Bears and currently boasts a 103-94 record.
