Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over MSU Moorhead on Saturday afternoon, improving to 11-13 overall with a mark of 6-10 in conference action.
The Mavericks started the match strong, leading throughout the first set, coming away with the 25-17 win. Sophomore
Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) posted six kills and hit .556 in the opening set.
Carrying their momentum into the second set, the Mavericks took an early six point lead (12-6), but fell to the Dragons 25-22. Honebrink and junior
Tiana Runck each tallied five kills in the frame.
MSU battled back in the third set, earning the 27-25 win, opening up a 2-1 lead in the match. Runck led the Mavericks tallying 8 kills on 11 attempts (.727). Sophomore
Ellie Van De Steeg posted 17 assists in the set.
The Mavericks took the third set, 25-21, earning the 3-1 win. Honebrink added seven kills in the final set, followed by Freshman
Krista Hassing (Blue Earth, Minn.), who tallied five kills on six attempts for a .833 attacking percentage.
Honebrink posted a career-high 21 kills, while Runck also established a career-high of 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .531. Van De Steeg finished with a season-high 62 assists. As a unit, the Mavericks hit .228 and were able to post five total blocks
The Mavericks return to action Friday as they host Minnesota, Crookston, first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
