Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team fell to No. 23 Northern State University 3-0. The Mavericks record now stands at 10-13 overall with a mark of 5-10 on the circuit.
"Credit to Northern State, they were well prepared to play us," stated head coach
Dennis Amundson. "We never were able to get our first ball attacking going, and were not able to catch up."
In the first set Minnesota State and Northern State were close throughout until the Wolves went on a 16-3 run to finish out the opening set, earning the 25-10 win. The Mavericks were led by freshman
Lexi Platz (Lafayette, Minn.) as she posted three blocks and freshman
Haley Fogarty (Belle Plaine, Minn.) tallied three digs.
The Wolves were able to take control in set two, with a final of 25-15. Fogarty once again led the Mavericks with seven digs and sophomore
Ellie Van De Steeg (Hutchinson, Minn.) had nine assists in the set. The Mavericks posted nine kills on 33 attempts, recording a .182 hitting percentage.
The Wolves won the third set 25-17, earning the straight set victory. Van De Steeg led the Mavericks in the set recording 9 assists, collectively the Mavericks posted 10 kills on 28 attempts.
Van De Steeg finished the match with 20 assists, Fogarty had 14 digs and sophomore
Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) was the only Maverick to reach double figure with ten kills. Collectively MSU posted seven blocks
The Mavericks return to action tomorrow night against MSU-Moorhead. The opening-serve is slated for 4 p.m. at Taylor Center.
