Mavericks Fall to Nation’s Top-Ranked Team

Box Score Mankato, Minn…. ----  The Minnesota State University volleyball team fell to the top-team in the nation, the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, 3-0. With the loss the Mavericks fall to 8-11 overall and 4-8 on the circuit.
 
The Mavericks and Golden Bears were all tied at 9-9 until Concordia went on a 16 to six run to round out the first set by a score of 25-15. The Mavericks were led in the set by freshman Lexi Platz (Lafayette, Minn.) as she finished out the set with three kills and a hitting percentage of .500.

In the second set, the Mavericks and Golden Bears were close throughout until the end as Concordia went on a 5-0 run to finish the set at 25-17. Platz and sophomore Rachel Ott (Stoughton, Wis.) led the Mavericks in the set, both tallying two kills and posting hitting percentages of .667 and .400 respectively.

The Golden Bears finished the match as they continued their success through the third set, downing the Mavericks by a score of 25-17. As a team the Mavericks finished the set with 11 kills and 11 attacking errors.

Platz led the offensive attack, posting seven kills, while hitting.235. Other notable players for the Mavericks were sophomore Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) who tallied seven kills and led defensively by freshman Haley Fogarty (Belle Plaine, Minn.), who tallied a match-high 12 digs.

The Mavericks will travel to the Peace Garden State next as they take on the University of Mary and Minot State this weekend.
