Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University volleyball team fell to No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State Friday evening, 3-0, falling to 8-9 overall with a mark of 4-6 in conference action.
The Mavericks dropped the first set, 27-25 in a back-and-fourth battle, being tied as early as the 12th point. Sophomore
Chandra Honebrink led the Mavericks in kills with six in 12 attacks. Junior
Tiana Runck and freshman
Krista Hassing each tallied four kills in the opening set.
The Mavericks found themselves in a seven point hole, and could not overcome the deficit, as they fell 25-21. Freshman
Lexi Platz led the Mavericks in the second set with five kills on seven attempts.
MSU jumped out to an early 6-3 lead before the Mustangs went on an eight point run eventually taking the deciding set, 25-17. Honebrink led the Mavericks again with four kills in the third set.
Honebrink finished the match with 12 kills while hitting .357. Freshman
Haley Fogarty led the Mavericks in digs, tallying 11 in the three set match. As a unit the Mavericks hit .147 and recorded four blocking errors to only three blocks.
The Mavericks will return to action tomorrow as they host the University of Sioux Falls, with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
