Foreshadowing: After posting a 20-10 victory over Augustana this past weekend, the #1 Minnesota State football team will hit the road Saturday as it takes on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs. The opening kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Our History: The 2013 season marks the school's 87th season playing football. The Mavericks are 401-376-28 (.515) in 805 games since their inception as a varsity sport in 1922. Minnesota State is in its sixth season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and owns a 48-9 (.842) record in league action. Over the course of its history, MSU has claimed 18 conference championships, including 16 NIC titles. Last season, the Mavericks advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Grabbing the Reigns: The 2013 season marks the second season with interim Head Football Coach
Aaron Keen patrolling the sidelines for Minnesota State. Last season, Keen guided the Mavericks to a 13-1 record, en route to an appearance in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. Keen currently boasts a head coaching record of 42-28, including an unblemished mark of 17-0 in NSIC play. He owns a 19-1 record at Minnesota State.
Mutual History: Saturday's meeting between the Mavericks and the Mustangs will mark the 12th time they have faced each other dating back to the 1971 season. MSU owns a perfect 11-0 record against the Mustangs, including a 4-0 record on the road in Marshall, Minn. The last time the Mavericks played the Mustangs on the road came in the 2011 season where Minnesota State claimed a 38-0 win. Last season, the Mavericks defeated the Mustangs 34-31.
Concerning the Mavericks: The Minnesota State Mavericks improved to 6-0 this past weekend as they defeated Augustana 20-10 at Blakeslee Stadium. MSU mustered 418 yards of total offense in its recent victory, while holding the Vikings to just 176 yards of offense.

Jon Wolf leads the Maverick rushing attack with 549 yards and six touchdowns this season. Sophomore
Connor Thomas ranks second on the team with 346 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Wolf has thrown for 979 yards and seven touchdowns through six games this season. Senior
Dennis Carter leads MSU with 424 receiving yards and four touchdown catches. Junior
Austin Rieder has 204 receiving yards and one touchdown on the season as well.
Junior
Kris Fleigle leads the Maverick defense with 36 tackles. Sophomore
Josh Gordon has posted 25 tackles, including a team-high four tackles for a loss. Gordon also leads the Mavericks in sacks with 2.5. Junior
Nathan Hancock leads the team with three interceptions, while freshman
Colt Nero leads the defense with two fumble recoveries.
Concerning the Mustangs: The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs improved to 3-3 on the season after posting a 55-16 win over Wayne State last weekend.
Tyler Tonderum leads the SMSU rushing attack with 1,175 yards and 13 touchdowns. Charlie Kern has tallied 233 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as well.
Kern has completed 141-of-226 passes for 1,681 yards and 15 touchdowns this season compared to three interceptions. He is averaging 280.2 yards per game and has completed 62.4 percent of his passes. Anthony Dean leads the SMSU receiving corps with 665 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
On defense, the Mustangs are led by AJ Page who leads the team with 61 tackles and five sacks. Jared Twedt and Dashawn Miller have each tallied two interceptions.
