Box Score The Minnesota State volleyball team fell to Augustana (14-2, 6-2 NSIC), 3-1 Friday evening, falling to 8-7 overall with a mark of 4-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
"We made a lot of progress tonight," stated head coach
Dennis Amundson. "We had more consistent execution and flow. Except for one streak in the fourth set, we played a good brand of volleyball. We look forward to a hard fought match tomorrow."
The Mavericks found themselves in a 9-7 hole before junior
Kaitlyn Braun (Henderson, Minn.) recorded three-straight service aces opening up a 10-9 Maverick lead. The Vikings would take a 19-18 lead and not look back, taking set one, 25-22. Sophomore
Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) led the Mavericks with four kills in the set and hit .667.
The second set was tied at 12-12 before the Mavericks opened up a 19-14 lead, eventually leveling the match at 1-1 as it took the second set 25-22 behind a four kill effort by Honebrink and freshmen
Sydney Geisness (St. Croix Falls, Wis.).
Augustana opened up a 2-1 lead in the match, taking the third set 25-23. Honebrink led the Mavericks with six kills in the set, bringing her total to 14 for the match, while hitting .407.
The fourth set was tied at 3-3 before the Vikings went on a 10-0 run opening up a 13-3 lead, which proved to be insurmountable for
the Mavericks as they dropped the fourth set 25-18.
The Mavericks were led by Honebrink who finished the set hitting .353, tallying 16 kills. Junior
Tiana Runck (Springfield, Minn.) recorded 12 kills in the match and the Mavericks combined for a .180 hitting percentage. Freshman
Krista Hassing (Blue Earth, Minn.) posted five assisted blocks in the match.
Minnesota State will return to action tomorrow as it does battle with No. 15 Wayne State, in Wayne, Neb.
