#7 Minnesota State Travels to U-Mary, Minot State

Mankato, Minn. --- The seventh-ranked Minnesota State men's basketball begins a two-game road trip as it travels to the University of Mary Friday (8 p.m.) and Minot State (6 p.m.).

What Just Happened: Minnesota State completed a 1-1 home stand last weekend as it defeated the Wayne State Wildcats 73-59, before losing to the Augustana Vikings 82-79 in overtime.

Senior Jarvis Williams paced the Mavericks against the Wildcats as he dropped in a game-high 23 points, while sophomore Zach Monaghan added 14 points and five helpers.

Against the Vikings, Williams and Monaghan led MSU in scoring with 16 points each, with Monaghan dishing out nine assists. Junior Gage Wooten posted seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Williams led the Mavericks with an average of 19.5 ppg during the weekend, while averaging 6.0 rpg. Monaghan finished the home stand averaging 15 points and seven assists per contest, while Wooten averaged a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game in MSU's 1-1 weekend.

Minnesota State History: The 2012-13 season marks the 91st campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men’s basketball. The Mavericks are 1,201-843 (.587) in 2,044 games since the program’s inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 66-30 (.687) record to go with a pair of regular-season championships.

The Mavericks have made seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament, going 12-9 (.571) in those trips.

A Little About U-Mary: The University of Mary Marauders enter the weekend the owners of a 3-15 record, including a 2-12 mark in NSIC play. The Marauders are currently on a nine-game losing streak, including a pair of losses to Minnesota Duluth (64-55) and St. Cloud State (68-51).

U-Mary is currently sitting in a tie for 14th place in the NSIC standings with a 2-12 league record, which ranks seventh in the Northern Division.

Jevin Budde is currently in his second season as the head coach of the Marauders. In his two seasons, he has posted a record of 10-30.

Alex Dorr leads U-Mary with an average of 13.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Mike Johnson has passed out a team-high 60 assists, while Josh Turner has turned in an average of 10.7 points per game.

As a team, the Marauders are averaging 61.3 points per game, while allowing 69.2 ppg.

Series History: Minnesota State is 5-1 all-time against U-Mary, including a 78-73 win in their only meeting last season.

A Little About Minot State: The Minot State Beavers are currently 7-11 on the season, including a 6-8 record in NSIC play. Recently, the Beavers split their weekend series as they fell to St. Cloud State 65-51, before defeating Minnesota Duluth 62-58.

Minot State is currently in a tie for 10th place in the NSIC standings with a 6-8 league record. The Beavers 6-8 conference record ranks fifth in the NSIC's Northern Division.

Matt Murken is in his first season at the helm of the Minot State men's basketball program and owns a 7-11 record as head coach.

E.J. Williams leads Minot State in scoring with an average of 10.6 points per game. Chris East is averaging 5.9 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest.
    
As a team, the Beavers are averaging 62 points per contest and are shooting 39.8 percent from the field.

Series History: This will be the first meeting between Minnesota State and Minot State.
