Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s basketball returned to the hardwood for the second game of its two-game homestand, as they looked for the season sweep over No. 8 Augustana, the Mavericks downed the Vikings 78-73 completing the season sweep and improved to 14-4 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC.
The Mavericks opened the game with an offensive surge as they jumped out to a 19-10 lead with 14:05 remaining in the half before the two teams would exchange points with MSU eventually taking a 40-34 lead into intermission.
The first half saw 25 turnovers with 18 of them coming from the Vikings, but the Mavericks were only able to score 14 points off of the Augustana miscues.
There were two Mavericks that netted double digit points in the opening stanza, led by junior forward
Ali Wilkinson who tallied 11 points, while sophomore
Aubrey Davis added 10, while shooting 2-of-3 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Minnesota State connected on 4-of-19 of its shots from the floor and just 1-of-5 from behind the arc in the first ten minutes of the second half, but held a 3 point lead, 53-50 heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.
The contest was knotted-up at 69 with two minutes remaining before the Mavericks finished on a 9-4 run, earning the 78-73 victory over No. 8 Augustana, completing the season sweep.
Wilkinson led the way with 22 points and four rebounds while Davis finished with 20 points, including the Mavericks final seven points of the contest. Sophomore
Jamie Bresnahan and junior
Karlee Gengenbacher each tallied 11 points in the contest.
The Mavericks are back in action on Feb. 2 as they take to the road, for a pair of games in N.D., beginning with a match-up with University of Mary next Friday, tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
