No. 20 Mavericks Suffer Second Straight Road Loss

Box Score St. Cloud, Minn. --- The No. 20 Minnesota State women’s basketball continued its three game road trip, as it took on the Huskies of St. Cloud State. The Mavericks fell 69-65, falling to 11-4 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC.
 
The Mavericks found themselves in an eight point hole going into intermission, trailing 31-23 after the first 20 minutes. MSU converted on 9-of-23 of its shots from the floor and 4-of-9 of its shots from behind the arc in the opening stanza.
 
Sophomore guard Ashley Olson jolted the MSU offense off the bench in the opening half converting on 3-of-4 (75%) of her shots from behind the arc, tallying 11 first half points.
 
Minnesota State turned the ball over 11 times compared to nine by St. Cloud State, the Huskies also outrebounded the Mavericks in the first half 19-13.
 
The Mavericks started the second half on an 8-2 run, cutting the Huskies lead to two points, with 18:15 remaining. SCSU would answer with an 11-2 run, opening up a 45-33 lead just over five minutes into the half.
 
Minnesota State would spend the remainder of the half trying to battle back and drew within two points with just over five minutes remaining, before the Huskies would seal the game at the free throw line.
 
The Huskies would win the game at the free throw line as they converted on 17-of-30 of their shots from the stripe, while MSU would only earn 13 trips to the charity stripe. The Mavericks connected of 25-of-54 (46%) of their shots from the field and 8-of-17 (47%) from behind the arc, but committed 23 personal fouls, and 23 turnovers.
 
Minnesota State was led by sophomore guard Aubrey Davis who netted 13 points, she was one of three Mavericks to reach double figures, Davis was joined by senior forward Ali Wilkinson who finished the contest with 12 points, and Olson, sophomore forward Jamie Bresnahan who each tallied 11 points.
 
The Mavericks will return to action Saturday, as they travel to Duluth, Minn. in the third and final game of a three game road trip, tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
