#10 Mavericks Extend Win Streak to Four as They Down the Huskies 3-1

Box Score St. Cloud, Minn. The Minnesota State volleyball team played its first road game in 20 days as it defeated St. Cloud State 3-1 by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19 to improve to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in NSIC play.

The Mavericks fell in the first set of the day by a score of 22-25 behind a sluggish offensive performance in which they hit -.053, recording nine kills and 11 errors in the set.

Minnesota State was able to hit its stride offensively in the second set as it won by a score of 25-16 to tie the match at 1-1. The Mavericks cleaned things up offensively as they were able to record a .360 hitting percentage in the set while recording 12 kills and only three hitting errors.

The Mavericks were able to take the momentum from the second set through intermission and came away from the third set with a 25-19 win. Minnesota State was led in the set by senior outside hitter #Courteney Steinhauser# who recorded 10 kills and six total blocks through the first three sets behind a .300 hitting percentage.

Minnesota State continued its winning ways in the fourth set as it defeated St. Cloud State 25-19 to pick up its 11th win on the season and 5th in the NSIC.  The Mavericks collected a match high 16 kills while hitting .286 in the set.

Collectively the Mavericks hit .193 on the evening and recorded 13 total blocks compared to eight blocks by the Huskies. Minnesota State was led by the senior trio of Kayla Berning, #Courteney Steinhauser# and #Chelsea Fogarty# who recorded 15 kills, 13 kills and 12 kills respectively. Freshman setter #Ellie Van De Steeg# recorded 42 assists and five blocks.

The Mavericks will return to the court as they take on No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m., in Duluth.
