#11 Minnesota State Defeats Sioux Falls 3-2 to Improve to 1-0 in NSIC Play

Box Score Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State volleyball team opened its NSIC schedule against the University of Sioux Falls at the Taylor Center, the Mavericks defeated the Cougars 3-2 by scores of 23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 15-8 to improve to 7-2 on the season (1-0 NSIC).

Minnesota State fell in the first two sets of the night by scores of 23-25 and 20-25 while hitting .311. Minnesota State was able to record a .640 side-out percentage through the first two sets.

The Mavericks came out firing in the third set as they recorded 15 kills while hitting .464 and were able to finish the set with a side-out percentage of .730 in route to a 25-18 victory.

Minnesota State was able to capitalize on the momentum they gained in the third set as they defeated Sioux Falls 25-15 and 15-8 in the fourth and fifth sets respectively to close out the match.

The Mavericks were led by the senior trio of Chelsea Fogarty, Courteney Steinhauser and Jill Storlie who recorded 18 kills, 17 kills and 12 kills respectively, freshman setter Ellie Van De Steeg added 63 assists in the winning effort. As a team Minnesota State was able to record a hitting percentage of .377.

Minnesota State will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m. as the play host to No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State.
