MSU Finishes All Seasons Arena Schedule Against UND

Mankato, Minn.---Minnesota State (7-23-0, 3-21-0 WCHA) hosts the fourth-ranked University of North Dakota this weekend for a WCHA series in the last home series for MSU this season. Friday the game is slated for a 7:07 p.m., start as Saturday is a 3:07 p.m., puck drop.

University of North Dakota Notes:

- No. 4-ranked North Dakota (18-9-2, 14-8-2-1 WCHA, 45 points) took two conference victories from Bemidji State at home last weekend.

- UND is ranked fourth in this week’s USCHO.com Div. 1 Women’s College Poll and the PairWise Rankings, both all-time program highs.

- North Dakota is two wins away from tying the all-time program record of 20 wins set last season.

- North Dakota is leading the league in penalty minutes by with 468, 75 more than the team in second. 

- UND is third in the nation in scoring, averaging  4.66 goals per game. 

- North Dakota can clinch home ice and the No. 3 seed in the league playoffs by sweeping MSU.

- UND became the second team to sweep BSU this season with 5-2 and 3-1 victories this past weekend.

- North Dakota held the Beavers 0-for-18 with the man-advantage last weekend

- Jocelyne Lamoureux extended her nation leading point total to 70 and tied her own school record of 28 goals in a season.

- Monique Lamoureux-Knolls is second on the team with 24 goals and 39 assists. 

- Michelle Karvinen led North Dakota offensively with six points last weekend, including a natural hat trick and a four-point game last Friday.

- Monique Lamoureux-Kolls had two goals, including the game-winner last Saturday and had a four-point weekend.

- Josefine Jakobsen extended her team-leading goal-scoring streak to three games with a goal in each game.

- Both of the Lamoureux twins enter the weekend with 192 career points, on pace to surpass the 200-point mark as juniors.

North Dakota and MSU History:

Lundberg

- The all-time series sits at 21-10-5 in favor of Minnesota State in its 36 games played. 

- UND swept the Mavericks at Ralph Englstad Arena with scores of 5-3 and 6-1 in November this season. 

- Last season the teams split the season series 2-2, but UND outscored the Mavericks 16-11 in the four games. 

- In the last ten games, MSU collects a 4-5-1 record against the University of North Dakota. 

- The Mavericks are 10-6-4 in the past 20 games against UND. 

- MSU’s Lauren Smith scored twice as Jackie Otto and Kari Lundberg (right) netted a goal in November’s match-up against the UND.  

- MSU’s Kathleen Rogan, who’s out for the season,  scored three goals and one assist in the 2011-12 season against UND.

Tracy McCann  and Moira O’Connor both had a goal and two assists in the four games against the Univeristy of North Dakota last year.

- The Mavericks were 2-of-7 with six shots on net in the last series against North Dakota. 

- UND’s Jocelyn Lamoureux scored five goals and four assists against the Mavericks as Monique Lamoureux-Kolls scored twice and added three assists in the four games last season.

- North Dakota had seven different goal scorers in the series and Stephanie Ney backstopped UND to both wins.

In the WCHA:  Lauren Smith has 17 points this season and sits tied in 34th for points in the WCHALauren Barnes and Lauren Zrust have 16 points and are tied in 38th currently in the WCHA.

 Senior Jackie Otto (left) is currently fifteenth in scoring for defenseman.  Otto ranks tied in 22nd in power play points with nine (3-6--9).

Close, but No Cigar: MSU is 4-6-0 in one-goal games this season. Last season the Mavericks played in 12 games decided by one goal or less. In those games, MSU owned a 2-7-3 record. In games decided by two goals or less the Mavericks sit 5-12-0 this season, with three games decided in overtime.



First on the Board: The Mavericks are 6-5 after scoring the first goal and 6-1 when leading after two periods of action.

When Falling Behind: MSU had its only comeback win against Bemidji State (1/6) as it stands 1-11 when trailing after the first period and 1-17when trailing after the second period.

Scoring in Two’s: The Mavericks have scored 16 power-play goals this season. Defensemen Jackie Otto and Emilia Andersson each have netted three goals on special teams. Kari Lundberg and Kathleen Rogan have scored two goals on the power-play. 

The Lauren’s Threat:  Lauren Smith (7-10--17) leads the team in points as she scored her seventh goal of the season against UW (2/3). Lauren Barnes (4-12--16) and Lauren Zrust (4-12--16) share the team-lead in assists this season and are tied for second in points on the team.
