Mavericks Shut Out Sunday By Badgers

Madison, Wis.— Minnesota State (7-23-0, 3-21-0 WCHA) was swept on Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center in Madison Wis., after dropping a 6-0 decision to No.1 Wisconsin. MSU has been swept the past four weekends as it has two regular season Western Collegiate Hockey Association series remaining this season.
 
The Badgers jumped on the board at the 7:26 mark of the first period on its fourth shot of the game. Wisconsin’s Brianna Decker capitalized on a MSU turnover in front of Butters for her 29th goal of the season.
 
Wisconsin used an 18 shot, three-goal period to own a 4-0 lead after two periods. Badger forward Brittany Ammerman one-timed a puck in the slot to beat MSU’s Danielle Butters low gloveside to make it 2-0 at 5:32. UW’s Blayre Turnbull came off the side boards with the puck, walked across the top the circle before she water-bottled a puck past Butters for the second goal of the period at the 10:11 marker. Senior Hilary Knight blasted a slap shot in the upper right corner with one second left in the period for the final goal of the period.
 
UW’s’ Brittany Ammerman scored her second goal of the night on a one-timer from Hilary Knight at 10:56 of the second period. Carolyne Prevost padded the Badger lead to 6-0 with 5:37 remaining in the game on a power-play goal.
 
MSU didn’t have a power-play in the game as Wisconsin went 1-for-3. The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 44-22 making it a career-high in saves for Maverick goalie Danielle Butters with 38 saves.
 
Minnesota State returns to action next weekend when it hosts North Dakota as Friday is scheduled for a 7:07 puck drop.
