Mavericks improve to 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in conference play

Mavericks Down Upper Iowa to Remain Perfect on the Season

Mankato, Minn. --- Saturday evening in Taylor Center the Minnesota State women’s basketball team defeated the Upper Iowa University Peacocks by a score of 81-57 to improve their record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. 

The Mavericks got off to a good start in the first half behind a balanced offensive attack.   MSU had six different scorers within the first ten minutes of the game.  Junior Ali Wilkinson led all scorers in the first half with 13 points on 50% shooting from the field.

Minnesota State opened up an 11-point lead before the Peacocks fought back behind a 16-1 run over the final 7:05 of the first half to take a four-point lead into halftime at 34-30.

The Mavericks came stampeding out of the locker room, starting the second half scoring on each of their first eight possessions, which translated to a 17-6 scoring run opening up a 47-40 lead with 16:14 remaining in regulation.

Minnesota State was led in the contest by Wilkinson, who finished the game with 24 points and 17 rebounds.  It was Wilkinson’s 22nd career double-double, and her second straight.  It was also the second time this season that Wilkinson has had at least 15 points and 15 rebounds in a game.

The Mavericks had five student-athletes reach double figures in points in addition to Wilkinson, sophomore Jamie Bresnahan, added 14 points, six rebounds, and five blocks.  Junior Karlee Gengenbacher contributed 13 points, sophomore Aubrey Davis tallied 12 points, and junior Alli Hoefer finished with 10 points.

The Mavericks will return to action as they travel to Marshall, Minn., to do battle with Southwest Minnesota State Dec. 14, tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
