Josh Nelson is this week’s
Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.
Nelson, 6-0, 180-lb., junior defenseman from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., had an assist in each game as Minnesota State earned 3-1 and 3-0 wins over visiting Alaska Anchorage last weekend.
Nelson assisted on a goal by Brett Knowles at 4:42 of the second period in Friday’s 3-1 victory and also had three shots on goal, helped keep UAA to no goals on three power play chances and had a +1 rating. In Saturday’s 3-0 win, he ssisted on Chase Grant’s game-winning goal, which came at 1:51 of the second period. He was +2 on the night and helped keep the Seawolves scoreless in two power play chances.
Nelson, who owns a thre-game point-scoring streak (1-2--3), has three goals and three assists for six points in 15 games played for the season.
The 20th-rated Mavericks, who have won their last six games, are 9-5-2 on the year and continue league play with a pair of road contests at Nebraska Omaha this Friday and Saturday.
