Mavericks & Beavers Set to Battle in Mankato This Weekend

On Tap:   Minnesota State (5-5-2 overall, 3-5-0 WCHA) continues Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend with a pair of league home games featuring Bemidji State (3-5-2, 2-4-2 WCHA).  MSU and BSU play in Mankato at Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).

Amongst the Ranks:  Including this week, the Mavericks have appeared in the “receiving votes” category of the USCHO.poll in seven of the last eight weeks. (see page 5 of this release for additional poll information).

About the MSU-BSU Series: MSU trails in the all-time series vs. Bemidji State, owning a 37-46-13 mark vs. the Beavers in a series that began 1974-75. MSU split last year’s series with the Beavers, dropping a 2-1 decision before claiming a 5-2 win the next night in a pair of games played in Bemidji.

MSU Most Recently:  The Mavericks stand 5-5-2 overall and are 3-5-0 WCHA in their most-recent action - a pair on a pair of 4-2 wins over Wisconsin in Madison last Friday and Saturday.

Bemidji State Most Recently:
  The Beavers are 3-5-2 overall and 2-4-2 WCHA after a 2-2 tie and 5-4 win a pair of league home contests with Alaska Anchorage last weekend.

MSU All-Time:  The Minnesota State men’s hockey program, begun in 1969-70, completed its 43rd year of competition last year.  The Mavericks are in their 17th year as members of NCAA Division I and in their 14th season as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. With a total of 1,455 games played, the Mavericks sport an all-time record of 741-578-136 (.556).
