Box Score St. Paul, Minn. – The seventh-seeded Minnesota State volleyball team took to the court for the opening round of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament. The Mavericks fell to Southwest Minnesota State in three sets by scores of 25-11, 26-24 and 25-16 to fall to 18-11 on the season.
The Mavericks dropped the first set by a score of 25-11, with set point coming by way of a
Whitney Burnmeister service ace. Minnesota State committed nine attack errors in the set, compared to two by the Mustangs. Senior middle blocker
Jill Storlie led the charge for the Mavericks, she recorded four kills on five attempts.
Minnesota State led the second set, 8-3, before Southwest Minnesota State went on a 12-7 run bringing the set to 15-15. The Mustangs would go on to win the set 26-24 improving to 2-0 in the set. The Mavericks were led by senior outside hitter
Chelsea Fogarty who finished the set with five kills.
The Mavericks were unable to get any momentum in the third set as they fell to the Mustangs 25-16, dropping the match 3-0. Minnesota State was led by the senior duo of Fogarty and Storlie who each recorded three kills in the set.
Minnesota State was only able to record two blocks in the match and they both came in the second set by Storlie and freshman setter
Ellie Van De Steeg. The Mavericks were led by Fogarty, who finished the match with 11 kills, Storlie was the only other Maverick to record double-digit kills, she finished with 10 kills and one block.
