Mavericks Earn Win Over Cougars Behind Fogarty’s Record Setting Performance

Box Score Sioux Falls, S.D. – The No. 22 Maverick volleyball team took to the court for their final regular season match of the 2012 campaign. Minnesota State defeated the University of Sioux Falls 3-1. The Mavericks took the first set by a score of 25-19, fell in the second set 25-21, and won the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-18.

Senior outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty recorded 26 kills in the match giving her 1,558 career kills, breaking the school’s all-time career kill record of 1,555 previously held by Jen Jacobs.

Minnesota State took the first set by a score of 25-19 after jumping out to a 5-2 lead. The Mavericks led by as many as six points and were led by senior outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty who recorded a team-high seven kills in the set.

The Mavericks had their efforts come up short in the second set as they fell by a score of 25-21. There were 12 ties in the set, including a 21-21 knot before the Cougars went on a 4-0 run to earn the win and bring the match to a 1-1 tie.

Minnesota State was able to come out after intermission and come away with a 25-23 win in the third set. The set was knotted up at 23-23 before the Cougars committed a service error and then a set error to give the Mavericks their final two points of the set.
The Mavericks were able to use the momentum from the third set, coming away with the 25-18 victory in the third set, earning the 3-1 win and improving to 18-10 on the season and 12-8 in the NSIC.

The Mavericks will now wait to hear their conference tournament fate, the top eight teams advance to the NSIC tournament.
