10/6/2012 4:34:00 PM

Box Score Grand Forks, N.D. ---  Junior forward Tracy McCann scored for the third straight contest but Minnesota State was unable to complete its first sweep at North Dakota since Oct. 22, 2007 falling to UND 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Junior goaltender Danielle Butters made 37 saves to continue her hot start to the 2012-13 campaign.

North Dakota jumped on the Mavericks early finding the back of the net twice in the first period.  Freshman Leah Jensen earned her first collegiate goal at 3:46, and senior Megan Gilbert tallied her first goal of the year at 16:44 to give UND a 2-0 lead through one frame.

Minnesota State was on the man advantage for five minutes in the period but failed to record a goal.

Senior Jocelyn Lamoureux added to the margin when she scored the first North Dakota power-play goal of the series at 3:03 of the second period.

Minnesota State was unable to mount a comeback for the second straight game hurting itself with too many penalties as senior Monique Lamoureux got into the act on the power-play at 14:18 of the third period.

McCann helped Minnesota State avoid the shutout netting her third goal of the season - first on the power-play - at 17:02 in the third. Senior forward Lauren Smith assisted the goal and has been on the scoresheet in three of four games for MSU this season.

Minnesota State (1-2-1, 1-2-1-0 WCHA) returns home next weekend to face-off against Lindenwood University - who the Mavericks swept last season - with the drop of the puck scheduled for 7:07 p.m. October 12th at All Seasons Arena.
