SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The 12th-ranked Minnesota State football team opened a 24-14 halftime advantage and never looked back as it spoiled Augustana’s Homecoming game Saturday afternoon by virtue of a 52-14 victory in front of 4,325 fans in Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

With the victory, the Mavericks improve to 6-0 on the season, marking the third time in the program’s 86-year history it has been undefeated through six games, joining the 1926 and 2009 squads as the only teams in school history to do so.

The Mavericks amassed 424 yards of total offense – including 262 on the ground in the victory while holding the Vikings to 278 yards of total offense.  The Maverick defense stifled the Augustana offense allowing just 44 yards on the ground.  The 44 yards of rushing offense for the Vikings marked the fourth straight game – and the fifth time this year – that the defense limited its opponent to less than 100 yards of rushing offense.

The 52 points by the Mavericks marked the third time in series history that the Mavericks have scored 50 or more points against the Vikings and improved MSU’s all-time record 21-22 against the Vikings all-time.

“I am so proud of our effort today,” said acting head coach Aaron Keen.  “Defensively we were stellar and offensively, we made the most of every possession.”

Offensively six different players scored touchdowns for the Mavericks as sophomore running back Andy Pfeiffer and redshirt freshman quarterback Mitch Brozovich each added two touchdown runs.  Pfeiffer’s scores came on runs of four and one yards while Brozovich scored from eight and seven yards out.  Brozovich added a 54-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman #Kyle Riggott#, while redshirt freshmen Connor Thomas and Trent Cummings each had a touchdown run of 17 and five yards respectively.

Junior kicker Sam Brockshus tallied ten points with his leg as he hit on all seven of his extra point attempts and a 24-yard field goal.  The last time a Maverick kicker scored ten points in a game was on Sept. 6, 2007 when Jason Tompkins booted ten extra points against Peru State.

Brozovich led the Mavericks with 20 carries for 104 yards, his first career 100-yard game. Additionally, he completed 10-of-14 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown while senior wideout #Adam Thielen# added seven catches for 96 yards.

Defensively, 23 different players tallied a tackle, led by senior defensive back Robert Gunderson who had six stops, five of which were solo.  Sophomore safety #Nathan Hancock# added five stops.  Senior linebacker Marcus Hall-Oliver added four stops and an interception – which he returned for 47 yards – setting up the Cummings touchdown while senior defensive back #Earl Brooks# added a 36-yard fumble recovery which set the table for the final touchdown by Brozovich.

Minnesota State returns to the friendly confines of Blakeslee Stadium for the only time in the month of October next weekend as entertains Southwest Minnesota State.  Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
