Box Score Mankato, Minn. – The Maverick volleyball team returned to action Saturday at the Taylor Center, as they downed the Golden Eagles from Minnesota, Crookston 3-0, by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-23 to improve to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
 
Minnesota State took the first set by a score of 25-15 behind a solid offensive performance by senior middle blocker #Jill Storlie#, who recorded five kills in the set, while hitting .714. Minnesota, Crookston hit .107 in the set and committed five attack errors.
 
The Maverick defense stepped up in the second set as they recorded seven blocks, while holding the Golden Eagles to a .000 hitting percentage. Minnesota State was led by freshman setter #Ellie Van De Steeg#, who recorded three blocks and 11 assists in the set as the Mavericks downed the Golden Eagles 25-15.
 
Minnesota State came out after intermission and trailed Minnesota, Crookston for a majority of the third set, The Mavericks trailed 23-22 before going on a 3-0 run to win the set 25-23 win, sweeping the Golden Eagles 3-0.
 
The Mavericks were led by senior outside hitter #Chelsea Fogarty#, who recorded a match-high 14 kills on 30 attempts while hitting .367. Sophomore outside hitter #Tiana Runck# added eight kills in the winning effort and Van De Steeg finished the match with 38 assists and three blocks.
 
Minnesota State will return to action as it travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. to face Augustana College next Friday, game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
