Box Score Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State University volleyball team returned to action at the Taylor Center Friday evening, as they swept the Beavers 3-0, by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-13 to improve to 15-6 overall and 9-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Mavericks set the tone in the first set as they defeated the Beavers 25-19. Minnesota State was led in the set by the senior duo of #
Chelsea Fogarty#, who recorded five kills while hitting .625, and #
Courteney Steinhauser#, who added three kills and tallied four blocks.
Minnesota State kept the momentum going in the second set as they downed Bemidji State 25-18. The Mavericks hit .407 in the set while holding the Beavers to a dismal .000, who recorded 12 kills and 12 errors on 34 attempts in the set.
The Mavericks came out firing in the third set as they were able to earn the 25-13 victory, sweeping the Beavers 3-0. Minnesota State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and never looked back. Fogarty recorded another four kills in the final set to bring her total to 15 on the evening.
Fogarty led the charge for the Mavericks as she hit .536, recorded 15 kills and tallied 12 digs, all of which were team-highs. Fellow senior #
Jill Storlie# recorded nine kills and five blocks. Steinhauser finished the contest with six kills and seven blocks. Collectively, Minnesota State hit .295 as a team and recorded six blocks to Bemidji State’s three, while the Beavers hit -.020 collectively.
Minnesota State will return to action tomorrow as they host Minnesota, Crookston at the Taylor Center, game-time is slated for 4 p.m.
