Box Score St. Paul, Minn. – The No. 13 Minnesota State volleyball team took to the court for a conference match-up with No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul Tuesday evening. The Mavericks were looking for the season sweep against the Golden Bears, but came up short in their efforts as they fell to Concordia-St. Paul 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-11 to fall to 14-6 on the season and 8-4 in the NSIC.
The Mavericks started the match strong with a 4-1 advantage before the Golden Bears tied it up at 5-5. Concordia-St. Paul then went on a 16-8 run taking the 21-13 advantage. Minnesota State was unable to overcome to deficit as they fell in the first set by a score of 25-17. The Mavericks were only able to hit .197 in the set led by the senior duo of
Chealsea Fogarty and
Jill Storlie who each recorded three kills in the set.
Minnesota State trailed 6-1 early in the second set before Concordia-St. Paul was able to extend its lead to 15-6. The Mavericks dropped the second set 25-15 behind a sluggish offensive performance in which they hit just .129 in the set and committed seven attacking errors.
The Mavericks failed to establish their offense in the third set as they were only able to record 11 points and fell to Concordia-St. Paul 25-11 to drop the match 3-0. As a team Minnesota State hit .000 in the set, recording seven kills on 27 attempts with seven errors.
Minnesota State was led by Storlie who recorded a team-high eight kills while hitting .263, which was also a team-high. For the match the Mavericks hit .102 and committed 18 errors while the Golden Bears hit .368 and only committed 13 errors.
The Mavericks will return to the friendly confines of the Taylor Center as they host Bemidji State, Friday evening. Game-time is slated for 7 p.m.
