Mavericks Open Second Half of Schedule Against the Beavers

Mankato, Minn.---Minnesota State (6-14-0, 2-12-0 WCHA) returns to action after three weeks off to face No. 10 Bemidji State (12-7-1, 6-7-1 WCHA) in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association two-game series. Friday and Saturday games are scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. puck drop.

Bemidji State Notes:
- The No. 10-ranked Beavers (12-7-2 overall, 6-7-1 WCHA ) are coming off a sweep of Robert Morris University last weekend, a series which wraps up their non-conference slate for the 2011-12 season.
- The Beavers’ pair of 3-2 victories allowed them to finish their non-conference games with a 6-0-1 mark.
- Bemidji State was led by its freshman class against the Colonials as BSU newcomers
accounted for four out of six goals on the weekend.
- Natasha Kostenko led the way with two goals and an assist on the weekend while Kristin Huber and Whitney Wivoda also found the net for the Beavers.
- BSU also continued their strong showing on the power-play this season as they picked up two more goals on the man-advantage against Robert Morris and now ranks fourth in the nation in power-play percentage.
- Zuzana Tomcikova is inching closer to a pair of BSU career records; the senior goaltender needs only 42 saves and just over 80 minutes player to surpass two Emily Brookshaw marks.
- The Beavers are led by head coach Steve Sertich.

MSU/BSU History:
- Minnesota State/Bemidji State all-time series is even at 21-21-10 in the 52 meetings.
- The Mavericks are 1-6-3 in the last ten meetings and 7-8-5 in the past 20 games.
- The largest defeat in the all-time series was in 1999 when MSU deafeated BSU 12-0.
- The longest streak is owned by the Beavers with seven games that lasted from 2000-2002 over the Mavericks.
- The teams split the series in Mankato earlier this season as MSU took away with a 2-1 overtime victory  and then dropped a 1-0 game on the ensuing night.
- Sophomore Kari Lundberg and senior Ariel Mackley scored goals in the series when the two teams met in November.
- Last season Bemidji State outscored Minnesota State 8-3.
- MSU’s Kathleen Rogan had two of the goals.
- BSU’s Lauren Williams led offense with a goal and two assists last season against MSU as ten different players collected points in the four games.

In the WCHA: Lauren Smith has 14 points this season and sits tied in 31st for points in the WCHA. Kari Lundberg and Lauren Barnes have 13 points and are currently tied in 32nd in the WCHA.
     Sophomore Lauren Barnes is tied for 25th in the WCHA for assists (11) through the first 20 games of the season. Senior Jackie Otto is currently thirteenth in scoring for defenseman (2-7--9) and Ariel Mackley is one slot behind her in the14th spot among scoring defenseman (2-6--8). 

Last Year at this Time: Minnesota State was 6-13-3 after its first 22 games of the last year. MSU was outscored 68-38 at that point. This season the Mavericks have been outscored 61-44.

First on the Board: The Mavericks are 6-4 after scoring the first goal and 6-1 when leading after two periods of action.
