Mavericks Drop One-Goal Decision to Bemidji State

      Bemidji, Minn.  ---  Minnesota State took an early lead, but could not hold off Bemidji State in a men’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest, falling to the Beavers, 2-1, in Bemidji, Minn., Friday.

Freshman forward Max Gaede jammed the puck under the pads of BSU netminder Dan Bakula at 8:58 of the opening period to open the scoring in the game.  The goal is the second of the year for Gaede and his first since Nov. 19 when he scored vs. Minnesota Duluth.

Danny Mattson tied the game at 16:20 of the second period when he beat MSU junior Phil Cook with a shot over Cook’s left shoulder on the short side.

The game-winning tally came at 9:46 of the third period after Phil Cook made a nice stop on Ben Kinne’s shot from the wing, BSU forward Jordan George tapped in a rebound on the stickside.

The Mavericks held a 40-26 advantage in shots on goal in the game.  MSU held Bemidji State scoreless in one power play chance on the night, while the Mavericks were unsuccessful in their three power play opportunities.

Now 8-18-1 overall and 4-14-1 WCHAon the year, the Mavericks close out their two-game league series with BSU Saturday with a 7:07 face-off scheduled for Sanford Center.
