St. Cloud State Notes:
- The Huskies hosted Ohio State this past weekend at the National Hockey Center in what was their first games in nearly a month. Friday, the Buckeyes took a 2-0 decision as Saturday afternoon the Huskies took OSU 4-3.
- Freshman goaltender Julie Friend got the start between the pipes both nights against Ohio State and had a total of 64 saves.
- Sophomore Molli Mott added to her team lead in goals scored when she recorded her seventh of the season halfway through the first period last Saturday.
- St. Cloud State assistant coach Jim Fetter is an assistant coach for Team Canada at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships which were played in the Czech Republic.
- The Huskies are 2-2-1 when scoring the first goal and 1-15-1 when its opponent scores the first goal.
- SCSU has scored 10 power-play goals as sophomore Molli Mott has scored four of them.
- St. Cloud State is averaging 1.31 goals per game and gives up an average of 4.59 goals a game.
- Looking for its first road win, SCSU stands 0-11-1 when playing at its opponnets home.
SCSU and MSU History:
- MSU owns a 26-24-5 record over the Huskies all time.
- The schools split the first series this year in St. Cloud. Lauren Barnes and Kari Lundberg each had a goal and an assist in the series as Lauren Zrust walked away with three assists.
- The Mavericks won both games in Mankato and and split the series in St. Cloud last year.
-On Feb. 11, 2011 the Huskies snapped a 31-game winless streak as they defeated MSU 2-0.
- Minnesota State has won five of the past seven games between the schools.
- MSU’s Kathleen Rogan had two goals and two assists against SCSU in the 2010-11 season while Lauren Smith marked three assists.
- Alli Altmann played three of the four games in net, totaling 78 saves against SCSU in 2010-11 season. Altmann shut out the Huskies in game one in the Decemeber series, giving the Mavericks the 6-0 win.
- Lisa Martinson and Molli Mott both scored two goals in the four games against the Mavericks last season.
- SCSU head coach Jeff Giesen holds a 9-14-2 career record against Minnesota State...Five of those games have been decided in OT
- MSU head coach Eric Means compiles a 6-3-1 record against the Huskies.
In the WCHA: Lauren Barnes and Lauren Smith have 14 points , which sets them tied at 34th in the WCHA in points. Kari Lundberg ranks 36th in points in the league. Sophomore Lauren Barnes is tied for 26th in the WCHA for assists (12) through the first 22 games of the season. Senior Jackie Otto (pictured right) is currently tied in 10th in scoring for defenseman (2-9--11).
Close, but No Cigar: MSU is 4-6-0 in one-goal games this season. Last season the Mavericks played in 12 games decided by one goal or less. In those games, MSU owned a 2-7-3 record.
She’s Heating Up: In the past nine games, Lauren Barnes has racked up six points with a goal against the Beavers last weekend. Lauren Zrust scored the game-winner against BSU last Friday, while also tallying an assist in the game as well. Jackie Otto compiled assists on both Maverick goals last weekend, moving her to be tied in 10th in scoring among defenseman in the WCHA.
When Falling Behind: MSU had its first comeback victory last Friday as it stands 1-9 when trailing after the first period and 1-13when trailing after the second period.
