Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Mavericks remain undefeated in 2011 as they defeated Alaska Fairbanks, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in the team’s second match of the 2011 Nanook Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Mavericks got out to a hot start in game one as they defeated the Nanooks, 25-14. MSU closed out the game on a 9-3 run as they were led by junior outside hitter
Chelsea Fogarty and junior middle blocker
Courteney Steinhauser who each contributed five kills.
Minnesota State picked up right where it left off after game one as they jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in game two. The Mavericks went on a 16-12 run from this point en route to earning a 25-14 victory.
The Mavericks dominance continued into game three as they completed the sweep of the Nanooks, 25-15. MSU never trailed in the final game as they closed the game on an 11-5 run.
Steinhauser and junior middle blocker
Jill Storlie led the Mavericks offensively with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior setter
Brittany Stamer contributed 36 assists while both Storlie and junior outside hitter
Kayla Berning each added four blocks.
The Mavericks (3-0 overall) will complete action in the 2011 Nanook Classic tonight against Dallas Baptist with the match scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. (CST)
