Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota State dropped its second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match Tuesday night as it fell, 3-1, against the Concordia University Golden Bears.
Concordia started fast in the first set as they sprung out to a 10-2 lead. The Mavericks made a late comeback going on a 9-4 run with Concordia on set-point; however, the Golden Bears prevailed taking the set, 25-19.
The Mavericks evened the match in game two as they won a competitive highly competitive second set, 25-23. With the score tied at 10, MSU went on a 12-6 run giving it a 22-16 lead. The Golden Bears clawed back with a 7-1 run of their own as they tied the set at 23. However, it was the Mavericks who wound up on top as they scored the set’s final two points on two Golden Bear attack errors.
The Golden Bears regained the momentum early in the third set opening on a 17-3 run. The Golden Bears didn’t take their foot off the throttle in the third set as they held the Mavericks to a season-low six points, taking the set, 25-6.
The final set went back-and-forth as the teams found themselves tied at 17. However, Minnesota State was unable to force a match-deciding fifth set as it fell, 25-22, in the fourth set.
Junior outside hitter
Chelsea Fogarty led the Mavericks offensively with 16 kills. Senior setter
Brittany Stamer led MSU in assists and digs with 32 and 17, respectively.
Concordia was led offensively by Ellie Duffy who recorded 18 kills on 35 attempts while Amanda Konetchy recorded 52 of the team’s 55 assists.
The Mavericks (8-3, 1-2 NSIC) return to action Friday night as they are set to host Bemidji State. Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m., at Bresnan Arena.
