What Lies Ahead: The Minnesota State closes out the month of September with a Noon kick at Concordia University. Saturday's game marks MSU's first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division match-up.
A Little History Lesson: The 2011 season marks the school's 85th season playing football. The Mavericks are 375-373-28 (.501) in 776 games since their inception as a varsity sport in 1922. Minnesota State is in its fourth season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and owns a 25-7 record in league action. Over the course of its history, MSU has claimed 17 conference championships including 15 NIC titles.
What's in a Win: A win would give MSU its 376th win in school history...A victory would be the 28th victory for head coach Todd Hoffner at MSU and the 74th victory of his career...A win would give MSU its 26th victory in the Northern Sun Conference...It would also give MSU a
its fourth win over Concordia and its second in the city of St. Paul.
Scouting Concordia: Concordia brings a 2-1 record into Saturday's game and are 1-1 in the NSIC. Last weekend, the Golden Bears earned a thrilling 27-22 win over Northern State thanks in part to a 16-yard touchdown run by senior Sam Campbell with a 8:06 remaining in the game to seal the win.
Campbell finished the game with 24 carries for 98 yards and a score while redshirt freshman quarterback Jared Russo completed 13-of-27 passes for 208 yards and three scores. Junior wideout Tre Mason led the team in receiving with four catches for 85 yards and two scores.
Defensively, senior linebacker Al Quay posted 13 tackles, including a tackle and a half for a loss and a sack.
For the season, CU is averaging 27.7 points per game while allowing 31.3. The Golden Bears are averaging 103 yards per game on the ground and throwing for 277 in the air. Concordia is coached by Ryan Williams who is in his first season with the program.
Series Notes: Saturday's game is sixth meeting in the series and the third game played between the two teams in the city of St. Paul, and the second time they have played in Seafoam Stadium...Junior wideout

Nationally Speaking: Minnesota State was well represented both as a team and individually in this week's edition of the NCAA Divsion II National Stats Summary.
As a team, the Mavericks boast the top-ranked passing defense in the country allowing just 88.33. The Mavericks also rank sixth in the nation in total defense (213.00), tied for 11th in scoring defense (13.67), 13th in passing efficiency (158.96), 17th in kickoff returns (28.33) and 19th in pass efficiency defense (92.21).
