Box Score Mankato, Minn--- The Minnesota State football team returned to historic Blakeslee Stadium to open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference portion of its schedule Saturday with a victory 32-10 victory over Northern State.
The Mavericks tallied 485 yards of total offense in the win.
Minnesota State came out with a strong first half, racking up 298 yards and 12 first downs on 34 plays, compared to just 82 yards and four first downs on 25 plays for Northern State.
Minnesota State registered the first touchdown early in the first quarter when a 33-yard pass by senior quarterback #Jon Daniels# to junior wideout #Adam Thielen#,setting up an eight-yard rushing touchdown by junior #Dennis Carter#. MSU scored again in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback #Jon Wolf# rushed for an eight-yard touchdown.
Shortly then after, the Mavericks’ senior wideout #LaMark Brown# scored on a 70 yard pass from Daniels. Brown scored again in the third quarter with a five-yard run.
The Maverick defense set the tone for the game as MSU tallied 227 yards of offense before the Wolves gained their second yard from scrimmage.
Thielen finished the game with six catches for 84 yards as he surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving barrier for his career.
Brown added four catches for 95 yards and a score while rushing three times for 11 yards and a score.
Redshirt freshman running back #Andy Pfieffer# led all rushers with 14 carries for 111 yards, with a long rush of 53 yards. Daniels finished the game connecting on 13-of-19 passes for 236 yards and a score.
Defensively, junior #Marcus Hall-Oliver# led MSU with seven stops, four of which were solo. He also added a half-a-tackle for a loss and an interception.
Minnesota State continues its NSIC schedule next weekend as it hosts Minnesota, Crookston for a 1 pm., contest against the Golden Eagles.
