Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team opened its annual spring break trip to with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon, downing Northwoods University (Mich.), 9-1 in five innings and University of Sciences in Philadelphia 9-3.
The wins extended MSU’s winning streak to eight games pushing its record to 10-1 on the young season.
In the opener, the Mavericks rattled off seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the win. Minnesota State was led at the plate by junior rightfielder
Melanie Upchurch who finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four stolen bases.
Freshman designated player Lindsay Erickson
was 1-for-3 with three runs scored while senior Natalie Spicer
went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Junior second baseman Amanda Umhoefer# finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Kendra Huettl earned her fourth win of the season – against one loss – as she worked five innings and allowed one hit while striking out five.
In the nightcap, 16 players stepped up to the plate for the Mavericks with nine players earning a hit as the Mavericks scored all nine runs in the first four innings.

Eryn Edgerton and redshirt sophomore first baseman
Sam Wadding and Erickson all recorded two hits while Edgerton and sophomore third baseman
Chloe Minkel each had two runs batted in.
Freshman hurler Kristin Fah earned her first career win as she went the distance scattering five hits while striking out three.
The Mavericks return to action Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. (EST) game against Saginaw Valley and an 11 a.m., contest against Bellarmine.
