Box Score Duluth, Minn. --- Minnesota State, seeded-seventh in the Western Collegiate Hockey Associations playoffs, fell to the second-seeded Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Friday evening, 3-0.
UMD holds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series and will look to end the series tomorrow night with a win, while the Mavericks will look to extend the series to game-three on Sunday with a victory.
UMD scored the opening goal of the game at 6:44 of the first period when senior wing Elin Holmlov cleaned up a rebound on MSU goaltender Ali Altmann’s glove side.
After a scoreless second frame, the Bulldogs added two goals in the third period when senior defenseman Jocelyne Larocque at 2:49 and Holmlov at 8:19, making the final, 3-0.
Minnesota Duluth racked up 39 shots to MSU’s 20, with neither team capitalizing with an extra attacker; MSU 0-for-1 and UMD 0-for-4.
Altmann allowed all three goals and stopped 37 saves, while Minnesota Duluth netminder Kim Martin earned the shut-out and 20 saves.
Minnesota State (8-24-3, 7-20-1-0 WCHA) and Minnesota Duluth (21-7-3, 18-7-3-0) will play the second game of the best-of-three series tomorrow night at 7:07 p.m.
