The Mavericks have taken four of the last five games from the Huskies

MSU and SCSU Tangle at the National Hockey Center

Mankato, Minn.---Minnesota State (5-11-0, 1-9-0 WCHA) heads to midwest Minnesota to face St. Cloud State (1-15-2, 0-12-0 WCHA) in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at The National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Friday is scheduled for a 7:07 p.m., puck drop. Saturday’s start is set for 2:07 p.m. 


SCSU Huskies Notes:

- In last Friday’s contest, the Bulldogs opened things up late and defeated the Huskies 5-1.

- Last Saturday night was all UMD as they took down SCSU, 10-2.

- Sophomore defender Cari Coen found the back of the net for the first time as a member of the Huskies in the 5-1 loss on Friday to UMD.

- She also had her first assist for SCSU in the loss on Saturday...Coen transfered to St. Cloud

State this season after playing her first collegiate season at Wayne StateUniversity where she played for Jim Fetter, who is now an assistant with the Huskies.

- Sophomore forward Julia Gilbert scored her first goal of the season last Saturday night against UMD...Gilbert has four points this season.

- The leading goal scorer this season for SCSU through 18 games has been Molli Mott, who has recorded nine points on a team-high six goals and three assists.

- Mott tallied two assists this past weekend in Duluth.

- Senior Brittany Toor follows with eight points on three goals and five assists.

- Toor scored a goal for the Huskies last Saturday in Duluth.

- Freshman Abby Ness has the team lead in assists with six and also has a goal to give her seven points. 

- Ness had an assist in last Friday’s game in Duluth.

- Junior Alex Nelson is fourth on the team with five points (2g, 3a)...Nelson also had an assist in last Saturday’s game at Duluth.

- Three Huskies have four points this season, including junior Haylea Schmid (2-2--4), junior Jocelyn Zabrick (2-2--4), and Gilbert (1-3--4). 

- Freshmen Audrey Hanmer (1-2--3) and Martinson (0-3--3) each have three points.

SCSU and MSU History:

- MSU owns a 25-23-5 record over the Huskies  all time. 

- The Mavericks won both games in Mankato and and split the series in St. Cloud last year.

-On Feb. 11, 2011 the Huskies snapped a 31-game winless streak as they defeated MSU 2-0. 

- Minnesota State has won four of the past five games between the schools.

- MSU’s Kathleen Rogan had two goals and two assists against SCSU in the 2010-11 season while Lauren Smith marked three assists.

- Alli Altmann played three of the four games in net, totaling 78 saves against SCSU in 2010-11 season. 

- Lisa Martinson and Molli Mott both scored two goals in the four games against the Mavericks last season.

- SCSU head coach Jeff Giesen holds a 8-13-2 career record against Minnesota State...Five of those games have been decided in OT

- MSU head coach Eric Means compiles a 5-2-1 record against the Huskies. 

In the WCHA:  Lauren Smith has 12 points this season and sits tied in 30th for points in the WCHAKari LundbergLauren Barnes and Emmi Leinonen have ten points and are tied in 40th currently in the WCHASophomore Lauren Barnes is tied for 27th in the WCHA for assists (9) through the first 16 games of the season. Senior Jackie Otto is currently tied in 14th in scoring for defenseman (2-4--5).


Power Play Tallies: The MSU  power play ranks 14th in the nation at 19.2 percentage. This season the Mavericks  have gone 10-for-52 (19.2 percent) with 68 shots while on the advantage.  Kari Lundberg, Jackie OttoKathleen Rogan and Emilia Andersson each scored two power-play goals as Lauren Zrust and Emmi Leinonenhave one. A year ago,  the Mavericks scored power-play goals in eight different games. Of those games they scored a power-play goal in, they won five games. MSU racked up 20 penalty minutes in three games last season against Robert Morris, Ohio State and North Dakota as it came away with a 2-0-1 record in those games.
