Box Score Mankato, Minn.---The Minnesota State University women's hockey team earned its first Western Collegiate Hockey Association victory of the season as the Mavericks defeated tenth-ranked Bemidji State 2-1 in a thrilling overtime victory Friday evening played in Mankato.
Senior forward
Ariel Mackley scored from the point with just 17 seconds remaining in overtime to give MSU the victory. Mackley's goals was a tick-tack-toe play that was set up by forward
Kari Lundberg and defenseman
Jackie Otto.
Minnesota State improves to 5-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the WCHA with the win, while Bemidji State drops to 6-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the WCHA.
The Mavericks led 1-0 after a second period goal by sophomore forward
Kari Lundberg which marked her fourth goal of the season. Senior forward
Emmi Leinonen notched her sixth assist of the year on as sophomore forward
Nicole Germaine also earned an assist on the goal.
Bemidji State scored a power play goal tying the game at the 14:14 mark of the third period.
Senior goaltender
Alli Altmann stopped 20 pucks for MSU, while the Beavers Zuzana Tomcikova earned 29 saves.
Bemidji State went 1-of-3 with an extra attacker and didn't commit a penalty all game.
Minnesota State and #10 Bemidji State will face-off again tomorrow afternoon at 3:07 p.m. at All Seasons Arena..
