Mankato, Minn.-- Minnesota State (5-7-0, 1-5-0 WCHA) heads to Grand Forks, N.D., to face seventh-ranked North Dakota (7-4-1, 4-3-1 WCHA) in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at Ralph Englstad Arena. Both Friday and Saturday games are scheduled for a 7:07 p.m., puck drop.
North Dakota Sioux Notes:
- The No. 7 Fighting Sioux (7-4-1, 4-3-1-0 WCHA) were idle last weekend, coming into the weekend after sweeping the St. Cloud State Huskies on Nov. 4-5 in St.Cloud.
- UND’s Jocelyne Lamoureux (USA), Monique Lamoureux-Kolls (USA), Jorid Dagfinrud (Norway), Andrea Dalen (Norway) and Michelle Karvinen (Finland) competed in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Four Nations Cup Nov. 9-13 in Sweden.
- UND’s Olympic line of Lamoureux, Lamoureux-Kolls and Karvinen combined for 11 of 12 total points against the Huskies in the 6-2 win last Friday at the National Hockey Center.
- Lamoureux and Karvinen each had two goals and two assists while Lamoureux-Kolls added one goal and two assists in its last series.
- Lamoureux leads the nation in points with 30 in 12 games while her sister, Lamoureux-Kolls, is tied for second with 27 and Karvinen is fifth with 22 (leads all first-year players)
- UND has four power-play goals in its last two games and is now clipping at a 27.4% rate on the 2011-12 season.
UND and MSU History:
- The all-time series sits at 21-8-5 in favor of Minnesota State in its 34 games played.
- Last season the teams split the season series 2-2, but UND outscored the Mavericks 16-11 in the four games.
- In the last ten games, MSU collects a 5-4-1 against the University of North Dakota.
- The Mavericks are 12-4-4 in the past 20 games against UND.
- MSU scored more shorthanded goals (2) against UND than power-play goals (1) a year ago.
- Kathleen Rogan scored three goals and one assist in the 2011-12 season against UND.
- Tracy McCann and Moira O’Connor both had a goal and two assists in the four games against the Univeristy of North Dakota last year.
- Against eachother, the Mavericks had 70 penalty minutes in the 2010-11 season as UND had 49 minutes.
- UND’s Jocelyn Lamoureux scored five goals and four assists against the Mavericks as Monique Lamoureux-Kolls scored twice and added three assists in the four games last season.
In the WCHA: Lauren Smith, Kari Lundberg and Emmi Leinonen all have nine points this season and sit tied in 27th for points in the WCHA.
Junior Lauren Smith is tied for 14th in the WCHA for assists (8) through the first 12 games of the season.
Power Play Tallies: MSU went 3-for-9 with 17 shots on on the power-play against the Lions on opening weekend. This season the Mavericks have gone 8-for-37 (21 percent) with 54 shots while on the advantage. Kathleen Rogan and Emilia Andersson have each scored two power-play goals as Kari Lundberg, Jackie Otto , Lauren Zrust and Emmi Leinonen each have one. A year ago, the Mavericks scored power-play goals in eight different games. Of those games they scored a power-play goal in, they won five games. MSU racked up 20 penalty minutes in three games last season against Robert Morris, Ohio State and North Dakota as it came away with a 2-0-1 record in those games.
