Mavericks Make 9th Tournament Appearance:  The No. 19 Minnesota State Mavericks (20-8, 13-7 NSIC) will make their ninth NCAA Division II Tournament appearance Thursday as it faces No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul (28-2, 18-2) in the tournament’s first round.  The seventh-seeded Mavericks and second-seeded Golden Bears square off at 2:30 p.m., with the winner moving on to face the winner of third-seeded Minnesota Duluth and sixth-seeded Wayne State.

How We Got Here: MSU entered last week as the tenth seed in the Central Region Rankings and had just two matches left to prove it belonged in the top eight which were selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament.  MSU took care of business in three sets last Friday against Bemidji State before moving on to its ever important match against No. 7 Minnesota Duluth.  The Mavericks dropped the first set to the Bulldogs 25-19 before responding with wins in three-straight sets.  The win ensured MSU its 14th season with 20 or more victories and the seventh-seed in the central region of the national tournament.  The 64-team NCAA tournament field was announced Sunday night and includes five Northern Sun Intercollegiate schools as third-seeded Minnesota Duluth, fifth-seeded Southwest Minnesota State and sixth-seeded Wayne State join the Mavericks and Golden Bears.
