Fogarty moves into eighth on school’s all-time kills list

Mavericks Sweep Beavers En Route To Victory

Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The No. 20 Minnesota State Mavericks made quick work out of Bemidji State Friday night as they swept the Beavers in the team’s second-to-last regular season match of the year.
 
Minnesota State started slow in the first set as they fell behind early, 6-0.  The Mavericks would respond quickly to their early deficit as they went on a 10-4 run tying the set at 10.  MSU would eventually find itself up one point at 19-18 before closing out the set on a 6-0 run taking the set, 25-18.
 
The second set would start much better for MSU as it jumped out to an early 9-2 lead.  However, it was Bemidji’s turn to make a comeback as it eventually tied the set at 19.  The Mavericks emerged from the tie as they proved to be too strong in the second set going on a 6-1 run earning the 25-20 victory.
 
After the third set got out to an early 3-3 tie, the Mavericks quickly gained the lead and never surrendered it for the remainder of the set.  MSU would eventually get out to a comfortable 20-10 lead before closing out the set with a 25-18 win to complete the sweep of the Beavers.
 
The Mavericks were led at the net by senior Alli Rice who recorded 15 kills on 38 attempts for a .289 hitting percentage.  Rice also added eight digs and three assists.  Also recording double-digit kills for the Mavericks was junior outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty who finished with 13 kills on 20 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage.  With her 13 kills, Fogarty moved to eight on the school’s all-time kills list as she now has 1,121 in her career.  Fogarty also led the squad with 13 digs.
 
Setting up the Maverick hitters was senior setter Brittany Stamer who finished the night with a match-high 38 assists.  Stamer also tallied three kills and three digs.
 
The Mavericks recorded more kills (47-36), digs (46-43), assists (46-33) and blocks (9-5) than the Beavers as BSU fell to 6-21 overall and 3-16 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.
 
Minnesota State (19-8, 12-7 NSIC) returns to action tomorrow in its final regular season match when it travels to face No. 2 Minnesota Duluth.  Action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
